Dr. Daniel Garrison Brinton (13 May 1837-31 July 1899) was born in Thornbury Township, Chester County, Pa., on "Homestead Farm" to Lewis and Ann (Garrison) Brinton. Brinton entered the army as a surgeon and served as Medical Director of the II Army Corps, holding the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel. Graduated from the medical school of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala in 1843 and settled in in Costa Rica. Alvarado was based in Cartago from at least 1860, and was living there when he communicated with C. Hermann Berendt in 1873.
